Kirk is a professional photographer who lives and works in Austin Texas.
He's written several books about lighting, and he makes a very good living as a photographer. He's not a guy who worships gear. For him, these are tools, and he is more concerned with getting high quality results than bragging about camera specs.
His work is very good.
And I think he has a real point about concentrating on technique rather than chasing specs. I think this is what pretty much separates the pros from us amateurs. We amatures like to think better gear will make us better photographers. The pros know better.
I've seen his work at
http://www.kirktuck.com/Portfolios/Portfolios.html , and I can honestly tell you he gets stunning results whether he's using a old E300 with kit lenses, or a brand new E3 with SHG glass. So maybe he's onto something about gear not being that important.
Incidentally, he recently switched from using Nikon to Olympus. And he says he prefers the quality of Olympus, especially the lenses. You might see him posting here in this forum from time to time...
